Zeus' path to power

Zeus' path to power was a very difficult and painful one. His father, who ruled the world, began to swallow every child his wife Rhea gave him. Rhea saved Zeus from a terrible death. She hid Zeus on the island of Crete in one of the caves, and slipped Cronus a stone. And so Zeus grew up and became a man. He resolved by all means to save his brothers and sisters who had been eaten by Cronus. His wife Metida advised him to prepare a potion, after drinking it Cronus burped up all the children he had swallowed. Zeus's mother Rhea poured the potion Zeus had prepared for her husband. Cronus drank it and all the children he had swallowed began to come out of him. They were already adults. After this there began a long war between the gods and the titans for power over the world. It was called Titanhomony and lasted for 10 years.

To defeat the titans, Zeus freed the Cyclopes from Tartarus. In gratitude, they forged lightning bolts for Zeus, with which they were able to strike the enemy. The gods' victory over the titans was also helped by the contradictions that arose between them. Several of the titans were unhappy with the power of Cronus, and they became allies of Zeus. It was only after the hundred-armed giants, freed by Zeus from the bowels of the earth, joined the fight that the gods were victorious, and Cronus was imprisoned in Tartarus.

After this, Gaia, goddess of the earth, was angry with Zeus for his cruelty to the titans. So she decided to spawn a monster with the old-headed Titans to teach Zeus a lesson. However, the Thunderer succeeded in defeating him with his thunderbolts.

Power over the world was then divided between whoiszeus.ca, Hades, and Poysedon. Zeus was given power over heaven, Hades over the underworld, and Poysedon over the sea.

Zeus' Wives

Zeus had a great many love affairs. Officially he had three wives and several dozen mistresses.

Zeus' first wife was Metida, an oceanid. Her name means "wisdom." She helped free Zeus' brothers and sisters. However, on the advice of Gaia and Uranus, Zeus turned her into a fly and swallowed her. He did this so that none of his sons born to Reus, Metida, would overthrow him. This was the prophecy of Zeus. Thus Athena, the goddess of war, was born. She came out of Zeus' mind as an adult.

Zeus then marries his own aunt, Themis. This was the goddess of Justice. She bore from Zeus Or, who were the goddesses of Seasons and Justice and Moir, who were the goddesses of Destiny. The third and last official wife of Zeus was his older sister Hera. Zeus turned into a cuckoo to woo Hera. In the marriage between Hera and Zeus were born: Hephaestus, god of blacksmithing, god of war Ares.
