Our friendly Captain’s and Marine Naturalist’s

This friendly crew are a vital part of the Discovery Marine Safaris team. They will keep you safe and informed while you are onboard the MV Tenacious III. One of our experienced Captains and onboard naturalists will be your hosts during your tour. Their role is to keep you safe, comfortable and informed while out on the water.

They are all trained to Transport Canada Standards with extensive knowledge about our marine environment and wildlife, each with their own reason for making sure your adventure is their passion!

Being at the helm of the MV Tenacious III requires more than the standard SVOP qualifications required to operate a standard 12 passenger boat or water taxi. Our Captains are all 60 tonne certified Captains with a small vessel machinery operators ticket for the specific vessel that they are in command of – in our case the MV Tenacious III. They have all had decades of experience operating vessels of this size and larger in BC coastal waters. Discovery Marine Safaris Captains’ have acquired in excess of 150 years of sea time as 60 tonne Captains operating vessels all along the BC coastline, their experience and knowledge of our coastline, wildlife and maritime history is second to none. Each of our Captains has to undergo health checks, safety procedures and prove a minimum number of hours of sea time in order to maintain their certification – you couldn’t be in safer hands than these dedicated members of our team!

Our marine naturalists double up as the 2nd crew member required onboard and as such in addition to their marine naturalist training they have all undergone rigorous marine safety training and are MED 3 certified.

CREWS TIP . . . If applying for a seasonal position. You must be prepared to become part of a fun, supportive extended family – not just a seasonal member of the team.
